ZONE 3.2A CHAMPIONSHIPS 2003
(Pre- SEA Games tournament)
1. Invitation:
The Vietnam Chess Federation and Ho Chi Minh City Sports Department has the
honor of inviting all Chess Federation in Zone 3.2a affiliated to FIDE to
participate in the Zone 3.2a championships 2003 (Pre-SEA Games tournament) from
April 29th to May 9th, 2003.

3. Time control:
The time control shall be 90 minutes with increment of 30 seconds per move.
4. Pairings:
The Swiss 4.6 program shall be used for the Championship conducted in 9 rounds.
In the last rounds, players from the same federation and who have more than
50 % shall not be paired together.
5. Qualification for world championship:
The Top two placers in the Men’s Zonal shall qualify for the Men’s World
Championship 2003 and the winner of the Women’s Zonal shall qualify for the
Women’s World Championship 2003.
6. Tie-break:
In case of a tie for the qualifying place (s) for the World Championship, the
following methods shall be used:
6.1 Where is a tie
between 2 players:
6.1.1 The players shall toss for colors for the playoff match of 2 games. Each
player shall be given 25 minutes with 10 seconds added after each move. The
second game shall commence 10 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
6.1.2 In case of a further tie, the players shall toss for colors and play 2
speed chess games with each player having 5 minutes and 10 seconds added after
each move. If this results in a tie again, the players shall toss for colors for
the first
Sudden death game. The first player to win shall be the qualifier.
6.2 Where there is a tie among than 2 players:
6.2.1.1 The player shall play a double-round robin tournament. Each player shall
be given 25 minutes with 10 seconds added after each move. Each subsequent round
shall commence 10 minutes after the conclusion of a round. The player (s) with
the most points shall be the qualifier (s).
6.2.1.2 In case of a further tie between 2 players, the procedure as in 6.12
shall be used.
6.2.1.3 If after 6.2.1, more than 2 players were ties, this would be a
double-round robin tournament speed chess tournament and the player (s) with the
most points shall be the qualifier (s). In the case of a subsequent tie (s),
rule 6.2.3 and 6.2 shall be repeated.
7. Appeals committee:
Appeals committee comprises 5 members and 2 reserves elected from among the
players and 5 different federations are represented.
8. Prize:
8.1 The top 3
players shall be awarded gold, silver, bronze medals.
8.2 The prize fund shall be announced at the players’ meeting.
9. Expense:
9.1 The organizer
shall be provided free full board and lodging during the tournament for:
- The players with GM and WGM following FIDE Elo since 1/1/2003 for men 2500 and
women 2300.
- 02 males and 02 females of 3 countries Myanmar, Cambodia and Mongolia
(CACDEC).
9.2 Further item 9.1, federations can participate in this Tournament without
limited number but must send registration before April 5th 2003 and response
their own meals and accommodation. The rate as follows:
Single room: US$ 45 per person per day
Double room: US$ 35 per person per day
10. Visa:
Participate shall apply visas at the Vietnam Embassy in your respective
countries. In case, countries have not Vietnam Embassy, please inform to
organizers as soon as to issue visas at the Tan Son Nhat Airport (Ho Chi Minh
City Airport).
11. The participant shall be received at the Tan Son Nhat Airport (Ho Chi
Minh City Airport) by organizer and we will provide the buses to the Hotel.
