Indian Men, Vietnamese Women Win Asian Team in Esfahan, Iran

The powerhouse Indian team, led by GM Krishnan Sasikiran, won the Asian Team Championship organized by the Iranian Chess Federation from 20-28 December in Esfahan. India tallied 31.5 points from 10 rounds followed by Vietnam with 29 points and host Iran-A with 25.5 points. Vietnam edged India by a point to win the women's division. At the Closing Ceremony. Dr. Saghaeeyan Nejad, Mayor of Esfahan and Dr. Maddahi, President of the Iranian Chess Federation, and many other high officials of Esfahan City participated. The ceremonies were broadcast live on Channel 3 of Iran Television.



GM Ghaem Maghami Ehsan of Iran won the Board 1 gold medal. GM Nguyen Anh Dung of Vietnam won on board 2 while GM Ganguly Surya Shekhar of India won on board 3.

Among the women, WGM Nguyen Thi Thanh An of Vietnam won gold on board 1, WFM Salman Mahini Mona of Iran won board 2 while WGM Swathi Ghate of India won the gold on board 3.
